Annotated Transcript: courses in my Master's program

Below is a list of the courses that I have taken in order to complete my Master of Arts in Education through Michigan State:

Fall 2010-Spring 2011:

TE 801: Professional Roles and Teaching Practice I

F. Muirhead

TE 802: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice I

S. Florio-Ruane

TE 803: Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II

S. Florio-Ruane

TE 804: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II

M. Hartman

These four courses provided me with the foundations on how to create lesson plans. I was taught how to make engaging lessons in math, language arts, science and social studies. During the second semester, I became lead teacher and was responsible for teaching 8 weeks in the classroom. During my internship, I also attended professional development and became apart of my teaching community.

Summer 2013:

CEP 840: Policies, Practices and Perspectives in Special Education

C. Englert

CEP 840 was the beginning start of my Masters classes. It lead me to understand the legal aspects of having students with special needs. The course also provided me with steps in making my first website. The stress of my role as teacher was a main focus in this course. It was a great stepping stone towards my Masters.

Fall 2013:

ED 800: Concepts of Educational Inquiry

S. Weiland

There was a large focus of inquiry in this course. Plenty of readings were provided to dive into the ideas of therories and practices of learning. With each reading, there was a required reflection on how the material could be used in the classroom. This course provided a great learning experience and i gained alot of knowledge that I was unaware of before. As an educator, it is imporant to focus on the development of inquiry skills and the nuturing of inquiring attitudes that will enable students to continue the quest for knowledge throughout life.

Spring 2014:

TE 846: Accomodating Differences in Literacy Learners

P. Edwards

This TE course provided many different types of practices to use in the classroom. It focused a lot on different types of learners and how one can accomodate them. Processes, theories, and practices were discussed as ideas on how to provide the best education possible to all learners. The use of technology was incorportated in this course. The use of videos and making PowerPoints were encorporated in this class.

Summer 2014:

CEP 841: Classroom and Behavior Management in the Inclusive Classroom

T. Mariage, C. Chamberlain, K. Constantine

During this course, I again learned how to create a website. This website described my new understanding of PBIS. I had not heard of this idea prior to this course so it was refreshing as well as informational. This course dealt with learning about characteristics of children with special needs. PBIS was discussed about how it can be beneficial in classrooms state-wide.

Fall 2014:

CEP 843: Autism Spectrum Disorders: Characteristics and Educational Implications

S. Ferreri, T. Kaid

Autism was the main focus of this course. History, characteristics and solutions were discussed. I also had the opportunity to create a powerpoint to discuss Autism in further detail. This allowed me to research and create a stronger idea of autism. There was a big emphasis on family involvement in regards to dealing with someome with autism. I left this class feeling confident and able to help a student who has autism.

Spring 2015:

CEP 832: Educating Students with Challenging Behavior

V. Mousouli, E. Oka

This course revolved around dealing with students with challenging behaviors. Throughout the course, we created a paper about a student in our class with a challenging behavior. Breaking down the steps and creating an intervention allowed me to approach the student in a different manner. Many resources were available to provide more information and insight about different behaviors. I enjoyed this course alot because it provided practical ideas and resources that I could use each day in my class.

Summer 2015:

ED 870: Capstone Seminar

M. Koehler

Capstone is a great course to end with as I finish my Masters. It provides me with the opportunity to reflect on past classes. I am also able to look at the future and make goals for myself as an educator. During this course, I created an online portfolio that showcases my work, resume and other information. It was a great and fulfilling course to round out my time at Michigan State completely my Masters.
